Reading for Recovery: A List of My Favorite Books for Healing

Books

Books have an incredible power to heal, guide, and inspire us. When it comes to therapy, the right book can serve as a companion on our journey toward self-discovery and emotional well-being. I most frequently recommend books related to eating disorder recovery, anti-diet practices, and body image improvement. But sometimes I get book requests for other subjects as well. I’ve rounded up a list of some of my favorites.

  • Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend

  • Codependent No More by Melody Beattie

  • Stop Walking on Eggshells by Paul T. Mason and Randi Kreger

  • The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman

  • Seven Principles of Making Marriage Work by John Gottman

  • The High Conflict Couple by Alan E. Fruzzetti

  • The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris

  • I Thought It Was Just Me (But it Isn't) by Brené Brown

  • Bearing the Unbearable by Joanne Cacciatore

These therapy books offer valuable insights, and practical tools, for  anyone seeking to understand themselves better and navigate life’s challenges. If you’re looking to explore your own path to emotional well-being, I highly recommend diving into these reads.
